8、rials4.1 The material shall be copper of such quality and puritythat the finished product shall have the properties and charac-teristics prescribed in this specification.NOTE1Specification B49 defines copper suitable for use.4.2 Copper bars of special qualities,forms,or types,as maybe agreed upon be
9、tween the manufacturer and the purchaser,and which will conform to the requirements prescribed in thisspecification may also be used.5.General Requirements(see Section 8)5.1 Tensile Strength and ElongationThe wire shall con-form to the requirements for elongation prescribed in Table 1(see Explanator
10、y Note 2).No requirements for tensile strengthare specified.For wire whose nominal diameter is more than0.001 in.(0.025 mm)greater than a size listed in Table 1,butless than that of the next larger size,the requirements of thenext larger size shall apply.5.2 ResistivityThe electrical resistivity at
11、20C shall notexceed 875.20 lb/mile2(0.15328 g/m2)(see ExplanatoryNote 5).5.3 Dimensions and Permissible VariationsThe wire sizesshall be expressed as the diameter of the wire in decimalfractions of an inch to the nearest 0.0001 in.(or 0.001 mm)(seeExplanatory Note 3).For diameters under 0.0100 in.(0
12、.254mm),the wire shall not vary from the specified diameter bymore than plus and minus 0.0001 in.(0.0025 mm),and fordiameters of 0.0100 in.(0.254 mm)and over the wire shall notvary from the specified diameter by more than plus and minus1%,expressed to the nearest 0.0001 in.(or 0.001 mm).1This specif
