8、pper and copperalloys,refer to Terminology B846.4.Summary of Test Method4.1 The prepared test specimen is expanded over a conicalpin inserted at a uniform speed or pressure.The expansion ofthe test specimen shall be measured on the outside of the tubediameter and shall conform to the product specifi
9、cation.5.Significance and Use5.1 When properly performed and interpreted,the expan-sion pin test will provide information with regard to thecapacity of a tube for expansion and to reveal surface defects.The expansion pin test may provide data for research anddevelopment,engineering design,quality co
10、ntrol,and accep-tance or rejections in specifications.5.2 In certain product specifications which establish require-ments for tubes of sizes greater than 4 in.(102 mm),the testdescribed in Test Method B968/B968M may be allowed as asubstitute.6.Apparatus6.1 PinThe conical pin shall have an included a
11、ngle of60,unless provided otherwise in the product specification.The pin shall be made of carbide or tool steel that has beenhardened and ground to the prescribed angle and shall have asmooth,polished surface.The size of the pin at the base shallbe suitable for the size of tubing being tested.6.2 Te
12、sting MachineAny type of testing machine,eitherhydraulically or mechanically operated,that will exert pressureto expand the pipe and tubing on the pin at a uniform rate.7.Sampling and Test Specimen Preparation7.1 The test specimen shall be prescribed in the specifica-tion for the product being teste
13、d.In the event that a testspecimen size is not prescribed in the pipe or tubespecification,the specimen shall be of suitable length so that itcan be expanded to the required amount.Both ends shall eitherbe faced square to the longitudinal axis in a lathe,or suitably1This test method is under the jur
