7、hepage yield of ink jet printer supplies.4.3 With this information,the user can determine supply-yield information for purposes of competitive comparisons orthe determination of cost-per-page.4.4 The test targets which are created using this practice canbe used to calibrate the equipment used to ver
8、ify percent areacoverage.5.Significance and Use5.1 Test targets where the percentage of area coverage hasbeen predetermined are not readily available from commercialsources.Moreover,it is beyond the ability of most users toverify if indeed,the commercially-available test targets containthe advertise
9、d area coverage.This procedure allows the user toeasily create test targets,using commercially available PCsoftware,which can be easily verified for percentage of areacoverage and can provide reproducible interlaboratory results.6.Interferences6.1 Consider the resolution of the ink jet printer for w
10、hichthe test target is being created.In other words,size theelements so that they can be divided evenly by the resolutionof the printer.This will ensure that the printer will only outputentire pixels,and will not be forced to use resolution enhance-ment techniques,such as modulation of the pixel siz
11、e.6.2 When creating the elements in the test target,considerthe aperture size of the densitometer which will be used tomeasure the output density.The elements created shouldcomfortably fit within the densitometer aperture area.7.Apparatus7.1 Personal computer and ink jet printer.1This practice is un

15、 percent area cover-age.For example,the current industry-accepted area coverageis 5%area coverage for black-and-white images and 15%forfull-color images.8.2 Determine the number and dimensions of elementsrequired for the application.Although only one element isrequired,it may be desirable to arrange
16、 several smallerelements around the page to produce areas suitable for densi-tometer measurement within the test target(refer to Fig.1).8.3 Create a new document with a word processor ordesktop publishing software program.8.4 Access the drawing tools and create an element with theproper dimensions.8.4.1 Some programs provide a dialog box which allows theuser to enter the dimension from the keyboard.8.5 Using the software,specify the color of the element(cyan,yellow,magenta or black).FIG.1 Sample
