8、d to textiles,refer toTerminology D123.4.Summary of Test Method4.1 This test method describes the dimensional stability ofmachine made pile yarn floor coverings when subjected toheat,water and various atmospheric conditions.The dimen-sions of the specimen are measured in the original state andafter
9、each stage of conditioning in the lengthwise and width-wise directions.The change in the dimensions are determinedand reported to the nearest.001 in.(.03 mm).5.Significance and Use5.1 The determination of dimensional change of pile yarnfloor covering is useful in quality and cost control duringmanuf
10、acture of pile yarn floor covering.The appearance andperformance may be affected by the changes in the dimensionsof pile yarn floor covering.This test method is consideredsatisfactory for acceptance testing of commercial shipmentbecause current estimates of between laboratory precision areacceptable
11、,and this method is commonly used in the trade foracceptance testing.5.2 If there are differences of practical significance betweenreported test results for two laboratories(or more),compara-tive tests should be performed to determine if there is astatistical bias between them using competent statis
12、tical assis-tance.As a minimum use the samples for such comparativetests that are as homogenous as possible,drawn from the samelot of material as the samples that resulted in disparate resultsduring initial testing and randomly assigned in equal numbersto each laboratory.The test results from the la
13、boratoriesinvolved should be compared using a statistical test forunpaired data,a probability level chosen prior to the testingseries.If a bias is found either its cause must be found andcorrected,or future test results for that material must beadjusted in consideration of the known bias.1This test
