4、nd similar hard,low-elongation vulcanized materials.1.2 This method does not apply to soft vul-canized rubber and similar rubber-like mate-rials.1.3 At standard test temperature,tensile strength and elongation can be determined.1.4 At test temperatures other than standard test temperature,the method
5、 should apply only to tensile strength.1.5 The values stated in either acceptable metric units or in other units shall be regarded separately as standard.The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents;therefore each system must be used independ-ently of the other,without combining val

9、is document is referenced in the Precision section.3.Definitions 3.1 Hard rubber is defined in accordance with Method D 530.3.2 Tensile stress,tensile strength,elongation,and ultimate elongation are defined in accord-ance with Definitions D 1566.4.Significance and Use 4.1 This method is designed to
10、generate tensile property data for the control and specification of hard rubber and similar hard,low-elongation vulcanized materials.4.2 These data may also be useful for material evaluation and qualitative characterization pur-poses and for research and development.4.3 Tensile properties may provid

14、he requirements of Method E 4 and shall meet the following requirements:5.1.1 The testing machine shall be calibrated to an accuracy of 11.5%of the loading range.5.1.2 The rate of traverse of the power driven grip shall be constant and such that the maxi-mum force shall be reached in 30 f 15 s.NOTE
15、2-A rate of travel in the range of 7.5 mm(0.3 in.)/min will result in application of a maxi-mum force within the specified time on a majority of the various types of hard rubber specimens.Rates of 5 and 10 mm(0.2 in.and 0.4 in.)/min are commonly used in the hard rubber industry.5.2 Grips-The grips t
16、hat hold the test spec-imen in the testing machine shall exert a uni-form pressure across the gripping surface.The gripping surfaces shall be knurled to prevent slippage of the test specimen.5.3 Bench Marker-The bench marker shall have two parallel straight marking surfaces ground smooth in the same plane.The surfaces shall be between 0.05 and 0.08 mm(0.002 and 0.003 in.)wide and at least 15 mm(0.6 in.)long,The angles between the marking surfaces and the sides shall be at least 75.The distance b
