6、lesusing a three-point loading method.The tiles are supported ontwo cylindrical support rods positioned to provide an appro-priate span.A load is applied at a uniform rate using a thirdcentral cylindrical rod positioned at the midpoint between thesupport rods.The breaking strength and modulus of rup
7、ture arecalculated using the load at which tile failure is observed,thedimensions of the tile specimen,and the span between thesupport rods.Optionally,the deflection at which the tile failureis observed may be reported.5.Significance and Use5.1 This test method is intended for determining the break-
8、ing strength and modulus of rupture of ceramic tiles and glasstiles for compliance with requirements that may appear inspecifications.6.Apparatus6.1 Testing Machine,capable of loading at a uniform ratesufficient to increase the stress in the specimen at a rate of 1 60.2 N/mm2(145 6 29 psi)per second
9、.At minimum,the testingmachine shall record loading data at the point at whichspecimen failure is observed.Optionally,the testing machinemay record deflection data.The rod support table of the testingmachine shall be adjustable such that the cylindrical supportrods can accommodate a variety of speci

12、tiles,selectedat random from the lot to be tested.Tiles too large to be testedwhole may be cut;however,the cut specimens shall be squareand as large as possible,though not larger than the rod length.The centerpoint of the cut specimen shall coincide with theoriginal centerpoint of the whole tile.8.P
