3、lorination techniques to more advanced biological systems that are designed to treat a singlewastestream of sewage followed more recently by complex bio-reactor systems employing advancedoxidation and high-powered UV systems that are designed to remove organic and inorganic materialsfrom a combined
4、wastestream of sewage and graywater.Advancements in treatment technologies have been fueled,in part,by shipping companies wantingto adopt more environmentally friendly practices as well as by regulatory bodies imposing morestringent standards on wastewater discharges from ships.This standard is a co
5、nsolidated source of sewage and graywater treatment system requirements thatcombines international requirements in MARPOL Annex IV with requirements of other regulatorybodies and overlays industry best practices.1.Scope1.1 This specification covers the design,manufacture,performance,operation,and te
6、sting of flow through treatmentsystems intended to process sewage or graywater,or both,generated during a ships normal service.This specification isintended for use by designers,manufacturers,purchasers,andoperators of shipboard environmental pollution control equip-ment to determine the requirement
7、s for equipment design,manufacture,purchase,and in-service operation.1.2 The treatment system shall be capable of meeting theeffluent requirements detailed in Section 4 with respect to aships operational area.1.3 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound unitsare to be regarded separately a
