5、Specification for ASTM Thermometers33.Significance and Use3.1 When oil is heated to polymerization temperature,somedarkening may occur rendering the oil unsuitable for use wherelight color is essential.Excessive darkening may be an indica-tion of residual soap content from the alkali refining proces
6、srendering the oil unsuitable for use where light color isessential.3.2 Some oils that are low in soap content may actuallybleach when heated to polymerization temperature,which isbeneficial.3.3 This test method is indicative of the color developedwhen the oil is heated to polymerization temperature

8、nent color standards asdescribed in Test Method D 1544.5.Procedure5.1 Place 100 mL of the oil sample in a 250-mL heat-resistant Griffin low-form beaker on a ring stand with anasbestos wire pad.Immerse the thermometer in the center ofthe oil so that the end of the bulb is from14to516in.(6 to 8mm)from
9、 the bottom of the beaker.Heat to 550F(288C)in5 to 10 min,and hold at this temperature 65F(63C)for 5min.Remove the beaker from the stand and allow to cool toroom temperature.Determine the color of the sample inaccordance with Test Method D 1544.6.Precision and Bias6.1 PrecisionThe following criteria
10、 should be used forjudging the acceptability of results at the 95%confidencelevel.6.1.1 RepeatabilityDuplicate results by the same operatorshould be considered suspect if they differ by more thanone-third color unit.6.1.2 ReproducibilityTwo results obtained in differentlaboratories should be conside
